Secretary-General visits the Embassy of the State of Qatar

On the morning of 7th March, Mr. Zhang Zongwu, Secretary-General of our foundation and Mr. Yu Shining, Director of International Liaison Department visited the Embassy of the State of Qatar, at the invitation of Mr. Abdulla S Al-Khayarin, Minister Counselor of the Embassy. Both sides had a pleasant meeting together.
Mr. Zhang Zongwu first expressed his appreciation to the invitation. He mentioned that our foundation has visited Qatar Embassy two years ago, and we had built a fairly good friendship from that time. Our foundation aims at creating platforms for China, African and Silk Road countries to exchange ideas to boost international interactions in trade and economy. Under One Belt One Road initiative, we have focused on strengthening connections with Silk Road countries for two years. So far, we have established connections with more than 20 Silk Road countries. Qatar shares good investment environment, some of our membership companies also undertake some important projects there, which have made positive contributions to the local economy. We will keep on encouraging more Chinese enterprises to invest overseas markets by organizing forums, seminars and business trips. He pointed out that our China-Africa Friendly International Trade Company has accumulated many experience in wide-range business scope, and looked forward to more cooperation in various fields to boost bilateral trade ties.
Mr. Abdulla S Al-Khayarin first welcomed our visit. He pointed out that as a Western Asian country, Qatar shares a strategic location in the South of the Persian Gulf, which is a bridge connecting China with Africa. Qatar and China has a long-standing friendship, and is the first group of countries to sign the Belt and Road cooperative agreements with China. Qatar has rich mineral resources and robust economy with many Chinese financial branch offices. Another advantage is that RMB is widely accepted there, which provides convenience for business exchanges. He emphasized that the capital of Qatar will host an expo for manufacturing industry in November, and they would like to invite Chinese enterprises to participate. The embassy of Qatar will continue his close contacts with our foundation, share trade intelligence and deepen cooperation in many sectors. He hoped that it will enhance economic growth between two countries.
Both sides also discussed about possible cooperative plans in 2017 and have come up with a preliminary consensus. Last but not least, Secretary-General cordially invited Qatar Embassy to attend our One Belt One Road Economic and Trade Salon in March 2017. Mr. Abdulla S Al-Khayarin accepted our invitation with pleasure, and looked forward to make complementary cooperation with our foundation to create a positive environment for future cooperation.
The meeting ended in a pleasant atmosphere, which helps enhance our friendship with Qatar Embassy. Both sides looked forward to the prosperous future for mutual cooperation with joint efforts.
